Positive feedback and evaluations led members of the Conference Committee (AKA the Hot Pink Bandana Girls) to declare the District Eight Conference a success.

More than 190 Altrusans from Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma attended the conference which featured literacy expert Dr. Michael Shoulders and a performance by “American Idol” finalist Patrick Hall of Gravette.

Perhaps the highlight for local Altrusans was the chance to give the Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter, the conference’s service project, more than $2,700 in gift cards and cash donated by those attending. The shelter also received food and supplies from the conference hospitality suite.

The conference was a lot of hard work – we couldn’t have done it without our friends in the other Arkansas clubs – but it was worth it. See everyone in Chickasha in 2009!

Members of Altrusa International of Rogers toured the Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter Oct. 27. Altrusans donated hats, gloves, scarves, blankets and basketballs during the tour. The shelter was selected as the agency which will receive gifts from Altrusans attending the District Eight conference in April 2008 hosted by the Rogers chapter at Embassy Suites. Members from Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas will be asked to donate gift cards for use by the shelter.
