Our Services
Altrusa of Rogers is proud to offer the programs below:
Dental Program
The dental program was established in 1954 to serve children in the Rogers School District. Funding came from the Community Chest and donations.
As the area has grown, so has the dental program. Now an agency of United Way of Northwest Arkansas, the program provides financial support for dental care to children in need. Additional funding comes from our annual lasagna dinner and donations.
Children eligible for the program must live in the Rogers School District and meet financial guidelines similar to the free/reduced price lunch program. Dental Committee members will work to get a child dental care through Medicaid or ArKids if he/she qualifies.
The dental program's first goal is to get children out of pain and then assess additional dental needs. Altrusa does not pay for orthodontics, cosmetic procedures or prescriptions.
Several local dentists participate in the program, many offering a discount for their services.
Applications for care through the program are available from Rogers School District school nurses.
Literacy Program
Literacy is Altrusa International's major service project. Literacy, however, is defined as more than just being able to read. To promote individuals’ abilities to use language to read, write, listen and speak is a goal of many Altrusa projects.
Rogers Altrusa has provided books and reading materials to local schools, the Rogers Adult Wellness Center and to the Veterans’ Administration Medical Center in Fayetteville. Additionally, Altrusans are available to assist in schools in a variety of volunteer roles.
The Rogers Altrusans offer support to the Rogers Public Library and its continuing program efforts.
In addition to past efforts to promote literacy, the club is in the process of planning new projects to inspire young people with the joy of reading.
